First Night of Flight, an all-night overnight indoor hat tournament in the Pittsburgh, PA area, is now the First NIGHTS of Flight Ultimate Event, two separate nights of all-night overnight indoor Ultimate. This year's event introduces the FNOF Friday Night Team Tournament on January 2, 2009 in addition to the traditional Sixth Annual FNOF Saturday Night Hat Tournament on January 3, 2009. ...we are hosting a charity ultimate tournament, Ultimate Relief, where all of the profit will be directly donated to the Indianapolis Firefighters Union to be distributed among the affected areas. Cost of the tournament will be $5 a player and the first 12 teams to register are guaranteed a spot. If you are an individual looking for a team, contact the tournament directors and they will place you with one. Registration deadline is July 16. Spectators are welcome. Come out, play some ultimate, and help aid those less fortunate. Sponsored by the Indiana Ultimate Association and local businesses.

Since we couldn't play our usual indoor pick-up game at ASH Center this weekend, we played a pick-up game outside at IPFW. As we were playing, a news van stopped by and started filming us. A 15(!) second clip of us lead the forecast that afternoon. The news van was, presumably, at IPFW to cover an Irish festival, which also made the news that afternoon.
The camera man did a nice job of capturing a good 'action' sequence and all thirteen of us that played that day. My hat's off to you Mr. Camera Man, whoever you are.
The clip starts with Braden guarding Andy. Andy throws a backhand to Ron. The camera pans past Renee (white) and Jane. Ron throws a forehand to Troy and then makes a cut upfield. The camera pans past Zach (yellow). Troy throws a high backhand around Mark to Ron. The camera pans past Ben (who was currently subbed out). Ron breaks the zone defense by throwing a forehand past Jeff H., Luke and Chad to Jeff R. for the point. The clip fades out with Ron pulling as Zach and Troy head downfield.

Wildwood XXIII is slated for July 30th & 31st in Wildwood, NJ. If you have never been, you don't know what you are missing. Last year 150 teams on 75 lined Beach Ultimate fields. [H]is College group (Salt and Light Christian Fellowship) and Church (Kossuth Street Baptist, Lafayette) hold a community charity co-ed volleyball and coed Ultimate Frisbee event for Trinity Mission, who help homeless and others to re-enter society. The Purdue club teams and members of the local high school teams and other regional athletes form teams and support the sport. It is kind of a big social event for a good cause. The coed volleyball in its 19th year- has some of the regions top volleyball players including division 1 and 2 college players. We are trying to assist in the growth of Ultimate Frisbee in the Lafayette area. It is held on the grass fields of Purdue University.Mr. Schinckel's e-mail included a flyer in Microsoft's Powerpoint format. I converted the file to PDF format to make it more universally accessible. The conversion wasn't perfect, but it does include the relevant details. Please contact Mr. Schinckel (not me) with any questions about the event.
